I love holiday movies. I might not be huge into Christmas itself, but I do love the movies that come from the season. There is something magical about the way winter and the holidays are depicted in movies. So I wanted to share 5 of my favorites just in case you might not have seen some or even all of them. So, grab a hot apple cider, some Christmas cookies, and a warm blanket to wrap up in while you are relaxing on your couch. Settle in and enjoy!
The Family Stone is probably my favorite on this list if I'm being honest. The sadness of the overall story is given the back burner to the humor and family time. I love the characters and the actors/actresses that were chosen. They did this movie very well and no matter how many times I have watched it (probably close to 100+) I still laugh and cry at all the same parts. Diane Keaton and Craig T. Nelson are the parents every adult child wishes they had and also didn't have. The other characters really do broach on personalities that most kids in families have. The snotty little sister, the laid-back brother, the successful brother, the sister who got married and had kids first, and the gay brother in an interracial relationship. They have some drama but by the end of Christmas day, everything seems to be coming together.
I mean yeah they can be cheesy but I love how they are mostly light-hearted and sweet. I have watched many over the years and I just can't stop myself mostly all year 'round and it just intensifies at Christmas time. They pick characters that sometimes can be rather relateable and storylines that although a bit over the top, are similar to things we have all been through at some point. They are driven more towards finding and keeping love during the holiday season than anything else, but that's ok, a good Christmas love story isn't so bad most of the time. Netflix has some of the movies and I do believe that Hulu carries some too.
The Holiday is a sweet and funny movie with some pretty big names in it. Heartbroken and lonely, two women switch houses for the holiday - one living in L.A. and other in England. They meet men who are family or friends to the other woman and end up falling for them. Jack Black, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are an amazing cast. There are some really funny times and also as always really sad times throughout this movie for sure. They really put their best foot forward with this movie. If you are looking for a feel-good movie that gives you all the emotions, this is a good choice for the holiday season. So, watch it soon!
This movie follows different people during the Christmas season, all going through things and trying to navigate life in general. Part funny, part sweet, part love, part feel-good this movie kind of has a little bit for everyone (well maybe not EVERYBODY, but people who don't mind a good rom-com). I love how all of that is tied into the holiday season with the beautiful snow falling down around people in some scenes. I recommend this movie for sure.
Serendipity is a movie that I have heard a lot of bad reviews about, but I have no clue what they are talking about, I adore this movie. It is such a cute little story about people meeting by chance and falling in love. I have always been a fan of John Cusack's almost awkward appeal - it humanizes him and plays well in the characters he chooses to play. Kate Beckinsale is as always a beautiful actress and I don't just mean the way she looks. She has this almost whimsicalness about her and her smile is infectious. They really bring so much to this movie and are really great together too! Find a way to check out this movie if you haven't already. It is really a feel-good movie and might even help you find the magic in love again.
I hope you are able to find something that you haven't seen before so you get to discover something new! Please leave me a comment and let me know which you have seen or will be watching! I would love to hear from you!
